The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has awarded Islamic Relief (IR) with second place in an award which recognises outstanding transparency and communication.
The ICAEW Charities Online Financial Report and Accounts Awards pay tribute to charities which have outstanding levels of accuracy and transparency, as well as excellent communication with beneficiaries, donors and stakeholders.
Islamic Relief was chosen from a list of the leading 100 fundraising charities, placing second ahead of Oxfam, ActionAid, World Vision UK, Christian Aid, NSPCC and the Prince’s Trust, among others. First place was awarded to the British Red Cross Society.
Saleh Saeed, IR Worldwide CEO said, “Islamic Relief is honoured to have been recognised in this way from a list of successful and eminent charities. This award reflects the great value we place on quality and it is a testament to the hard work of Islamic Relief staff in ensuring that our organisation continues to be transparent, honest and dedicated to the alleviation of suffering.”
Islamic Relief received the award on 15 July at an awards ceremony in London. Graham Ward CBE, Chairman of the judging panel said, “The challenge for charities is how to bring the financial statements to life and link them to tangible activities and case studies. They must remember their websites are a means of telling the world what they stand for and future goals that will direct directly of the ability to secure funds.”
Andrew Hind, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission attended the ceremony and congratulated Islamic Relief on their achievement.
Islamic Relief was assessed by a panel of leading accountancy firms on the technical quality and clarity of its annual financial reports. To find out how donations to Islamic Relief are spent, click here.
